Well violence isn't really the answer for anything but it sounds to me like he deserved it. You could approach the situation using both methods. Explaining to him that when you violate someone else's space unwanted, especially a woman's, there's never going to be a good outcome. Let him know you sympathize with him and you are sorry he's hurt but hopefully this is a lesson well learned.
